Pre-Pre Revolution (1494-1630)


1494 Treaty of Tordesillas: divided world between Spain and Portugal
Patroon ships: large tracts of land granted in return for settling an area
Huguenots: Protestant reformers persecuted for their break from the catholic church who wanted to emigrate to the Americas were forbidden too by french government
1713 Treaty of Utrecht: France loses war of Spanish succession and gives up major land to Britain

1606 Jamestown colony: settled, First permanent British colony in the Americas, in Virginia
1620 Plymouth colony: colonists who were religiously persecuted established colony in MA, sailed over on mayflower 
1630 Massachusetts Bay Colony : established by Puritans, an extremely religious settlement

-Both Rhode Island and Maryland practiced early religious tolerance in this Pre-Revolutionary Period
-Georgia was establish by GB as a buffer zone from Spanish Florida and also as a penal colony
French settlers mainly flocked to Canada, France lost Canada in the French-Indian War
